Abdelouahed Ben-Ncer
Jebel Irhoud excavator and fossil researcher
Also known as Abdelouahed Ben Ncer
Who they are
Abdelouahed Ben-Ncer participated in the excavation and study of the Jebel Irhoud human fossils in Morocco. He coauthored the 2017 anatomical and dating studies that placed these remains within a much earlier and geographically broader account of Homo sapiens origins. His contribution combines field archaeology with collaborative interpretation of fossil evidence.
His work anchors the timeline’s account of early human origins in excavated remains and their archaeological context.

New fossils from Jebel Irhoud, Morocco and the pan-African origin of Homo sapiens
The team describes new Jebel Irhoud fossils that combine relatively modern facial and dental traits with a more archaic braincase. The abstract places these finds within a geographically broad account of early Homo sapiens evolution.

The age of the hominin fossils from Jebel Irhoud, Morocco, and the origins of the Middle Stone Age
The dating study uses heated flints and associated evidence to estimate the age of Jebel Irhoud’s fossil-bearing deposits. It supplies the chronology that accompanies the team’s separate anatomical study.
