Air Force officer and Rendlesham witness

Also known as Charles I. Halt

Who they are

Charles Halt was the U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel and deputy base commander who documented the Rendlesham Forest reports in a January 1981 memorandum. He relayed the patrolmen’s earlier account and described later observations in which he participated. The memorandum and surviving British records form the core of his connection to this timeline.

He supplies a named military author and participant record for Rendlesham, while the memo’s claims remain distinguishable from an established explanation.

    Unexplained Lights

Halt records the patrolmen’s report and the later lights and ground observations he says he witnessed. The memorandum separates his firsthand involvement from the earlier account relayed by other personnel.

Memorandum dated January 13, 1981; the document’s incident dates should not be silently substituted for later reconstructions of the case.

    Reading scope & citation

Freshly read the three-paragraph transcription, date and signature. The original scan was not visually compared character by character. Official National Archives guidance separately identifies the memo and its record references. The January 13 date is document creation, not public release.
