Heinrich Rubens
Thermal-radiation experimentalist
Who they are
Heinrich Rubens contributed radiation measurements, including work with Ferdinand Kurlbaum, that Planck discussed in his 1900 theoretical paper. Those measurements constrained how a successful radiation law should behave. His contribution illustrates the experimental work supporting the calculation, without treating him as a coauthor of Planck’s paper.
He belongs to the measurement history behind early quantum theory.

On the Theory of the Energy Distribution Law of the Normal Spectrum
Planck calculates the radiation distribution by counting finite energy elements proportional to frequency. The inspected translation shows the connection to measured radiation data, including work by Rubens and Kurlbaum.
English translation of the 1900 paper; translator unidentified in the inspected reproduction.
