Who they are
Henry Norris Russell was an astronomer involved in the early debate over what stellar spectra reveal about chemical composition. Harvard’s historical account places him in Cecilia Payne’s 1925 story as an influential adviser who encouraged caution about her abundance result. He also published his own study of the Sun’s atmosphere in 1929.
His profile connects the development of stellar astrophysics with the reception of Payne’s work.
