Who they are
Henry Tizard chaired the British air-defence committee that received Robert Watson-Watt and Arnold Wilkins’s 1935 proposal for detecting aircraft by radio. His role here concerns the organization and support of research: the experiment and technical report are credited to Watson-Watt and Wilkins. The episode links laboratory radio work to a developing national detection system.
He represents the institutional sponsorship behind early British radar development.
