Who they are
John Stewart Bell examined whether a local hidden-variable account could reproduce quantum predictions. His 1964 paper derived a mathematical constraint that made the debate experimentally testable. The work turned a dispute about underlying explanations into a comparison between definite predictions, while leaving laboratory tests to later investigators.
He anchors the timeline’s move from philosophical disagreement about quantum mechanics toward experimental tests.

On the Einstein Podolsky Rosen paradox
Bell derives a mathematical incompatibility between a specified local hidden-variable account and quantum predictions. The result identifies an experimentally testable constraint; this paper itself does not report a laboratory violation.
