Who they are

Joseph Dalton Hooker helped bring Darwin’s and Wallace’s separately developed arguments on natural selection before the Linnean Society. With Charles Lyell, he arranged and communicated the 1858 presentation and wrote its covering explanation. His role in this milestone concerns mediation and publication, while authorship of the evolutionary arguments remains with Darwin and Wallace.

He makes the scholarly network behind a major scientific publication visible.
