Also known as K. Chylinski
Who they are
Krzysztof Chylinski shares first-author credit with Martin Jinek on the 2012 paper demonstrating programmable Cas9 DNA cleavage. The byline places his work at the University of Vienna and Umeå University. His place here is in the collaborative experimental foundation of genome editing.
He represents the experimental contributors behind a major biotechnology milestone.

A programmable dual RNA-guided DNA endonuclease in adaptive bacterial immunity
Jinek and colleagues explain RNA-guided Cas9 cleavage and test an engineered single guide against DNA in vitro. The paper presents programmable genome editing as a possible application, rather than an already demonstrated therapy.
Science article published online June 28, 2012; issue date August 17, 2012.
