Who they are
Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz reported the evidence for a Jupiter-mass companion to the Sun-like star 51 Pegasi in 1995. They interpreted periodic changes in the star’s radial velocity as a short-period planetary orbit. Their paper is part of the transition from speculating about other planetary systems to measuring them.
His connection is a landmark observational contribution to the search for planets beyond the Solar System.

A Jupiter-mass companion to a solar-type star
Mayor and Queloz interpret regular changes in 51 Pegasi’s radial velocity as evidence for a Jupiter-mass companion. The paper helped establish planets around Sun-like stars as an observational research field.
