Who they are
Neil Armstrong commanded Apollo 11 and descended to the Moon with Buzz Aldrin in July 1969, while Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit. The mission combined launch, navigation, landing, surface work and rendezvous into a coordinated operation. Armstrong appears within that team achievement rather than as a substitute for the crew and institutions that made it possible.
He is a central participant in the first crewed lunar-landing milestone.
