Who they are

Orville Wright developed and tested powered flight with his brother Wilbur. His diary records the four flights they made on December 17, 1903, with the brothers alternating as pilots and confronting wind and control difficulties. The document provides a contemporary record of trial, measurement and cooperation behind an aviation milestone.

He is both a participant in the flight trials and the author of a surviving primary account.
