Who they are

Stanislas Dehaene is a cognitive psychologist who studies the neural basis of reading, calculation, reasoning and consciousness. A professor at the Collège de France, he develops global neuronal workspace accounts of conscious access. He participated in COGITATE as a theory proponent, helping make competing explanations answer to agreed experimental predictions.

He appears in the comparison of consciousness theories and the attempt to test them through an adversarial collaboration.

Adversarial testing of global neuronal workspace and integrated information theories of consciousness

The COGITATE consortium compares preregistered predictions from integrated information and global neuronal workspace theories using three types of brain measurements. The results support and challenge different predictions without declaring a complete theory of consciousness.

    Consciousness and the Brain

Dehaene presents psychological experiments and brain-imaging research on conscious access, unconscious processing and global-workspace theory. The publisher’s description frames it as an account of a research program, useful background for the later COGITATE comparison.
